Why is everyone so outraged by Gap’s new logo? I understand their old logo represented their timeless-ness and “How can you change something after over 20 years?!” Let me be one of the first to say that I LIKE their new logo. First of all, IT’S HELVETICA. You can’t go wrong with the crispiness that is helvetica. Second of all, brand logos change all the time. Since when is Gap the face of american clothing? I mean, I guess I get it; they’re trying too hard to be modern, but I thought the point of being an american company is having the ability to appeal to the masses?
Like I said before, brands change their logos all the time. In further research I have discovered that some companies change their logo every ten years or so. Let’s take a look at some:
All of these companies/brands are household names, and I don’t remember such an uproar about their changes (that 2003 Pepsi logo is pretty lame.) Why are people so afraid of change? If we’re evolving into a genre where kids play with each other via their playstations and xboxes and instead of calling people we write on their facebook walls, then I think companies can change their logo’s to look more modern. I may be reading too much into this but I honestly do not understand why Gap’s new look is so crazy. I give it about another week until people already forget what the old logo even looked like.
I do miss these from Gap though:
UPDATE: Are you happy now America? Gap went back to their old logo. I hope inanother 5 years you complain about how outdated it is. geeesh
